It’s been a funny old season for Arsenal. A reasonably strong start, a dip in form around Christmas, calls for Wenger to retire and stalls in contract talks with key players. Doesn’t sound familiar at all, does it?

But on the subject of big names at the Emirates, fans should be able to sleep safe in the knowledge that Alexis Sanchez is going nowhere. Should.

How can we be so confident?

Well, they say actions speak louder than words.

And putting all the rumours to one side for a second, we’re focusing on what he did after netting in the 4-1 victory over Stoke City last weekend.

Bear in mind, the Chile international had just asked to be substituted through injury. But the ball broke his way and he managed to get on the scoresheet.

He then ran over to the travelling fans, alternating between pointing at the badge and at the floor.

In other words, this is Arsenal and I’m staying right here.

That’ll be music to the ears of Gooners worldwide, who know just how important Sanchez is if they’re to stand any chance of challenging for the title next season.

A healthy 28 goals and 19 assists in all competitions this season make him by far Arsenal’s most productive player this season – and he’s the first Gunner to surpass 20 goals in a Premier League campaign since Robin van Persie’s exit.

So it appears that Arsenal’s final position in the table won’t have any influence on the forward’s decision.

By our reckoning, Arsene Wenger can consider himself a lucky man if that’s the case.
