Cracksman now second favourite for this year’s Derby

Permian may have won this year’s Dante Stakes at York but the Derby market suggests that the withdrawn Cracksman has emerged with plenty of credit, despite not running on the Knavesmire.

We make the John Gosden-trained colt the second favourte for the 2017 Epsom Classic, with his odds cut from 7/1 to 9/2.

Cracksman ran the Dante winner down in an Epsom Derby Trial and his rival’s subsequent success has only served to heighten the excitement around Gosden’s Frankel colt.

Meanwhile, Permian is a 16/1 shot for the big one with Aidan O’Brien’s Churchill still the 4/1 antepost market leader.

Nicola McGeady of Ladbrokes said: “Cracksman’s Derby claims may have been boosted this afternoon, but punters are still waiting for a bigger clue as far as the market is concerned. We are yet to see any huge confidence behind anyone so perhaps Breakfast With The Stars will provide more clues next week.”
