Andy Murray’s struggles continue – but he remains Wimbledon favourite

Andy Murray’s season took another turn for the worse this week, with the Scot bowing out of the Madrid Open to world 59 Borna Coric.

The result continues Murray’s dismal run, which has seen suffer early exits at Indian Wells, Monte-Carlo and now Madrid.

Injuries haven’t helped his campaign, but nevertheless it’s a worrying time with the French Open and Wimbledon approaching on the horizon.

The Scot is now 16-6 for the season, and is already just three defeats shy of the nine matches he lost in the entirety of 2016.

He has only gone through one season since 2007 with a worse win ratio than the 73% he is on for 2017.

In comparison, Rafael Nadal is 31-5 for the year (three of those defeats to Roger Federer) and the Spanish ace boasts an 86% win rate.

And speaking of the Fed-Express, his win rate stands at a mighty 95% as he settles into his new regime of a semi-tour.

So all told, the pressure is really on for Murray if he is to make any headway in this year’s remaining Slams.

Murray is 5/1 to win in Paris, behind Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic in the betting.

But the King of Clay is in scintillating form right now, and will surely be too strong for Murray should they meet at Roland Garros.

On to Wimbledon then, where Murray remains market leader at 9/4.

Current form suggests backing Federer at 3/1, but punters have stayed loyal to Murray and he still holds top spot in the betting.

Continue to struggle however, and the Scot will quickly be heading to Wimbledon without that favourite tag.
