Andy Murray to begin against Andrey Kuznetsov in French Open

The draw for the 2017 French Open has been made, and it’s reasonable news for Andy Murray.

The world number one will begin against 85^th-ranked Andrey Kuznetsov,  whom he has beaten on both previous meetings.

We make the Scot 1/5 to progress, but in truth, that does say plenty about Murray’s struggles this year.

Ordinarily our traders should be chalking up the two-time Wimbledon champ at least 1/20 or shorter.

And that’s reflected in Kuznetsov’s odds, with the Russian remarkably short at 7/2.

There isn’t too much for Murray to be concerned about in the immediate rounds, but Juan Martin del Potro will be a likely opponent in the third.

Tomas Berdych could then await in the fourth.

And we should see at least two Brits progress beyond the first round, with Aljaz Bedene 4/11 favourite to defeat American Ryan Harrison.

Tournament favourite Rafael Nadal – seeking a 10^th French Open crown – will begin his quest against Benoit Paire.

But the King of Clay looks all-but assured to progress at 1/50, leaving Paire out at 14/1.

Number two seed Novak Djokovic will commence his bid against Marcel Granollers.

There are plenty of intriguing first round clashes in the women’s draw.

Reigning champion Garbine Muguruza will begin against 2010 winner Francesco Schiavone, and world number one Angelique Kerber opens against two-time Slam semi-finalist Ekaterina Makarova.
