Ajax v Lyon: Dutch giants to remain unstoppable on home turf
Lyon’s aim on Thursday night? Crack Ajax’s amazing home form.
De Godenzonen have won 20 and drawn one of their last 21 games at Amsterdam ArenA – and sadly for the French outfit, there’s every chance they’ll notch up yet another home win on Wednesday night.
Especially so as Les Gones have won just twice in their past 12 on the road – including an embarrassing defeat to relegation-threatened Caen in Ligue 1.
That means Ajax look generously-priced for victory at 5/4, with 13/5 for the draw – and 2/1 on offer for the visitors to record a first-leg advantage.
And there look to be plenty of savvy selections elsewhere too.
Ajax’s last six games have seen 24 goals scored, while Lyon’s have produced 20. So backing Over 2.5 Goals looks a very safe bet at 8/13, while it’s 6/4 that we see more than 3.5.
One man who could well maintain the hosts’ high-scoring run is young forward Kasper Dolberg. The Dane has scored six times in his last nine outings, and has already registered in four different Europa League games this season.
He’s a 7/5 shot to find the net anytime against Bruno Genesio’s men – while 9/2 says he’s the last goalscorer for the eighth game this season.
As for Lyon, they’ve always got a chance of at least getting an away goal while Alexandre Lacazette is on their books.
The powerful striker is far and away Lyon’s best player, and with 31 goals and counting this term, it’s hard to look past him adding to his tally here at 6/5.
But perhaps the best – if most unorthodox – bet is on the timing of Ajax’s first goal.
Peter Bosz’s men have opened their account between the 21-30 minute mark of nine different games this season, so the 13/2 for them to grab their first of the game within that period could prove an inspired selection.
