Odds suggest Liverpool’s bid to land Real Madrid ace is far from over
If there’s one area of Liverpool’s side you’d say didn’t need strengthening, it would be their front line. However, that hasn’t stopped Jurgen Klopp from reportedly offering a staggering £42m to Real Madrid for the services of Marco Asensio.
That’s been deemed an unacceptable fee by the Galacticos, who signed the 21-year-old from Mallorca for just £3m two years ago.
But despite having their initial bid rejected, the latest odds are suggesting the Reds won’t stop there in their pursuit for the Spain international.
He’s just 3/1 to sign for Liverpool next.
Though it seems unlikely Zinedine Zidane would would happy to see one of Madrid’s future stars leave before he’s had a chance to prove himself in the first-team on a regular basis, our traders reckon Anfield will be his next port of call.
Having featured for Madrid on 17 occasions in the league this year, Asensio has three goals to his name, all of which have come in games he’s started for Los Blancos.
But will Liverpool have to sacrifice key man?
Having spent £67m on signings last summer, it’s likely Klopp will be given another huge sum to play with when the transfer window opens at the end of this season.
But his budget could be given another boot with the sale of Philippe Coutinho, who has been heavily linked with a move to Barcelona in recent months.
Despite signing a contract extension at Liverpool earlier this year, it’s thought the Brazilian could leave Merseyside as a replacement for Andres Iniesta at the Camp Nou.
Were that to happen, Liverpool would need to find a replacement for the 24-year-old – that’s where Asensio comes into the picture.
And there’s every chance the Reds will break the bank for his services.
