Man United new favourites ahead of Liverpool in Rodriguez race

Published:

As speculation over the future of James Rodriguez continues to mount, the weekend’s press now that claim Manchester United are favourites to sign the unhappy forward.

The Real Madrid striker was handed a rare start by Zinedine Zidane in a midweek win at Leganes.

But that was largely down to the Frenchman’s desire to rest Cristiano Ronaldo, Gareth Bale and Karim Benzema for the weekend’s derby with Atletico Madrid.

The 25-year-old has started just eight league games this term, and at his age, is missing out on what should be his best years.

Liverpool had been favourites in the betting in recent weeks, but it’s all change this weekend.

Spanish outlet Don Balon claim that Rodriguez has informed his agent to kick-start negotiations with Manchester United over a move to Old Trafford this summer.

The Red Devils may be stuck in sixth in the Premier League table, but it is widely agreed that Jose Mourinho has got the former champions heading in the right direction.

And should they win this season’s Europa League, then they can also offer Rodriguez Champions League football next term.

United have struggled for creativity this season, but with Rodriguez managing a handy six goals and 13 assists from just 25 appearances, signing the forward could solve those woes.

Our traders have reacted to the news too, with United new favourites at 5/2 to make the move this summer.

That’s pushed Liverpool out to 9/2, alongside Manchester City.

At 6/1, Arsenal are the outsiders, at least as far as Premier League clubs are concerned.

A move to either Juventus or Bayern Munich is an 8/1 shot, with Paris Saint-Germain priced at 10/1.
