Koeman keen to lure out-of-favour Southampton man to Everton

Everton’s attacking football has caught the eye of many this season, but the Toffees’ top-six push has been hampered by some inconsistent defensive displays. However, Ronald Koeman could help solve that issue this summer by signing Southampton’s Cuco Martina.

Koeman initially brought the Curacao international to St Mary’s back in 2015, and he impressed during the campaign, providing a number of solid displays at right-back, as well as chalking up multiple assists and a goal in the 4-0 demolition of Arsenal.

However, he’s struggled to match that Premier League game-time this term, with just nine outings – and none of them since the end of 2016. So there’s every chance he’d be happy to leave the South Coast.

With Everton reportedly very keen on securing the 27-year-old’s signature, there’s little doubt he’d be happy to reunite with Koeman. So the question is – would he be a good addition to the blue half of Merseyside?

The former Twente defender certainly boasts an impressive physical presence, and was used to excellent effect against some of the Prem’s most powerful strikers last season.

A good distributor of the ball – with an 81% pass completion rate this season – he also has the ability to produce a piece of magic, as shown by that stunning strike against the Gunners last term.

And with Seamus Coleman ruled out for a prolonged period following his horrific leg break on international duty, the Goodison Park club are currently short in the right-back department, meaning Martina could well plug a vital hole this summer.

Next up for Everton is the visit of Burnley this weekend, with 2/5 for the Toffees to secure a seventh straight win on home turf.

Meanwhile, there’s 4/1 on offer for Koeman’s men to finish the season in the top six.
