Kilmarnock v Hearts: Back in-form Sammon to haunt his old club

Published:

Heart of Midlothian head to Rugby Park on Friday night hoping to end their dismal recent away record. But they could struggle against a Kilmarnock side in decent form.

Killie have lost just one of their last five games – a respectable defeat against Celtic – taking points against the likes of Rangers and Partick Thistle, as well as recording an impressive 2-1 win at Ross County.

The man who opened the scoring that day was Conor Sammon. The 30-year-old endured a difficult first-half of the campaign with Hearts, before moving to Kilmarnock at the end of January.

The former Republic of Ireland international has found his form again in East Ayrshire, netting in three of his last seven outings. He’ll be keen to prove himself to the Jam Tarts support, so the 12/5 for the striker to score anytime looks well worth backing.

One goal could well be enough to secure victory for the hosts. Ian Cathro’s men have taken just four points from their last nine games on the road, and have failed to even register a goal in the past three. So Killie look well priced to win to nil at 11/2.

And chances are they’ll do the damage in the first half. Of Hearts’ last five defeats, they’ve trailed at the interval in four of them. That makes the 11/2 for Kilmarnock to lead at half-time and win look like a smart selection.

However, if you’re looking for a really safe bet, we recommend the 3/10 for this game to produce under 3.5 goals. It won’t make you rich, but the fact that nine of the hosts’ last 10 games have produced three goals or fewer means this looks like an absolute banker.

In the match betting, Killie are 14/5 for victory, with Hearts 10/11 and the draw priced up at 5/2.
