Ignore their 6th-placed average…Man United won’t be staying there

Manchester United fans have had to be patient in their wait for progress since the departure of Sir Alex Ferguson.
And that’s continued to be the case this term, with the Red Devils spending the lion’s share of the campaign in sixth place – though they currently occupy fifth spot.
A recently circulated Premier League table from August 2015 onwards has also seen opposition fans poke fun at Jose Mourinho’s side, whose points total during that period puts them in…yep, you guessed it…sixth place.
However, United fans could soon have the last laugh, with plenty of reason to believe they’ll finish higher than that this term – and in the much-publicised table.
The Red Devils are now 21 games unbeaten in the Premier League – while the division’s next best record at present is six without defeat (a stat shared by Tottenham and Liverpool).
And based on their impressive 3-0 rout of Sunderland on Wearside, that run is set to continue, while the sides around them are struggling, with Arsenal and Manchester City winning two of their last 10 Prem games combined.
United are clicking defensively, as well. The North-West giants have conceded just twice in the last five games. In fact, that impressive streak stretches back some way, with eight clean sheets in 15 matches in all competitions.
That means they head into the last eight games of this campaign – which includes games against the likes of Chelsea, Manchester City, Arsenal and Tottenham – with the chance to leapfrog some of the sides around them, and momentum behind them.
With all that in mind, we think that when this table gets updated at the end of the campaign, United have every chance of occupying a top-four spot.
As for this season, that’s also still possible. The likes of Liverpool and Man City have reason to worry…
