Crystal Palace v Arsenal: History says visitors will win again

November 1979. Does that date mean anything to you? It’s significant when talking about Crystal Palace and Arsenal. Why? Because it’s the last time the Eagles defeated the Gunners at home.
And while recent form might suggest otherwise, we just can’t see anything other than an Arsenal win (3/4) on Monday night.
Arsene Wenger’s men haven’t won back-to-back Premier League games since January, while Sam Allardyce’s side have picked up 12 points from the last 15 available to them.
That’s seen the Eagles climb to 16th in the table, three points clear of the relegation zone with two games in hand over their rivals at the bottom.
In other words, they’ve given themselves a great chance of staying up, and this is by no means a must win game.
The same can’t be said, however, for the visitors. Right now they’re seven points off the top four. Granted, they too have games in hand, but anything other than a win at Selhurst Park would be a massive blow to their Champions League qualification hopes.
We can expect Alexis Sanchez and co to fly out of the traps then, and 15/4 says they’re in the lead after 15 minutes.
It’ll hardly take a rocket scientist to figure out Big Sam’s tactic for the last match of the weekend.
He knows where his side’s strengths are. Better still, he knows where Arsenal’s strengths are, and he’ll set his team up to deal with them accordingly. That means trying to frustrate the Gunners front line for as long as possible.
If his tactic works, it’s likely plenty will be cashing in on the 9/2 for Crystal Palace to keep a clean sheet – something they’ve done in three of their last five games.
As for goalscorers, Theo Walcott has been in red hot form for the North London outfit in recent weeks, and already has 19 goals to his name for the season in all competitions. It’s 6/1 for him to open the scoring , while his teammate Olivier Giroud (who netted the last time this pair met) is 5/4 to score at any time.
