Cardiff City lead Swansea in battle to snap up Barnsley star

Cardiff City fans will know the name Marley Watkins well. The Barnsley winger starred in the Tykes’ 4-3 triumph in South Wales back in December. But the next time this pair meet, the 26-year-old could be on the side of the Bluebirds.
That’s the view from our trading floor, with Cardiff firmly installed as 2/1 favourites to sign the former Inverness Caledonian Thistle star, who has enjoyed a stellar campaign at Oakwell.
Watkins has directly contributed to 19 of the Tykes’ 61 goals in the Championship this term, netting 10 and recording nine assists.
Having also played an integral part in the club’s double-whammy of promotion from League One and EFL Trophy triumph last season, the Lewisham native is clearly no one-season wonder.
And plenty of clubs have been taking note. While the Bluebirds are currently in pole position for his signature, their South Wales rivals Swansea City are 4/1, with Bristol City (5/1) close behind.
However, there’s a chance the wing wizard could make the short journey to one of Barnsley’s Yorkshire rivals, with Sheffield Wednesday (7/1), Leeds United (9/1) and Huddersfield (10/1) all plausible outsiders for his signature.
Next up for Cardiff is a trip to the DW Stadium, with 23 /10 on offer for Neil Warnock’s men to take all three points against Wigan Athletic.
