Bayern v Real Madrid: Spanish giants can secure first-leg advantage

Real Madrid’s quest to become the first side to successfully defend a Champions League triumph continues at the Allianz Arena against a typically strong Bayern Munich. But the stats suggest the visitors could – and should – end Die Roten’s 13-month unbeaten home streak.
The Spanish giants won 4-0 on their last visit here, as part of a 5-0 aggregate triumph, en route to winning the Champions League in 2014. And while we don’t think they’ll quite repeat that margin of victory, they’re well-priced for victory.
Zinedine Zidane’s men have won five in a row on the road, scoring 16 times in the process. And their European record is similarly impressive – unbeaten in five UCL away games, including meetings with Manchester City and Borussia Dortmund.
As for Bayern, their Achilles heel was exposed with defeat to Hoffenheim last week, with the Rhein-Neckar outfit punishing their opponents on the counter-attack.
That makes the 7/2 for Madrid to win on the night look like excellent value, with the hosts 3/4 to take the advantage, while there’s 11/4 on offer for a share of the spoils.
However, there could be even better value elsewhere for those looking to back the visitors.
Los Blancos have already come from behind to win on eight occasions this season – doing so six times within 90 minutes. So the 16/1 on offer for them to do so again in Germany looks like terrific value.
And the man to do the damage? We’re backing Alvaro Morata. After six goals in his last 10 outings, the 24-year-old looks well priced to find the net anytime at 12/5, while 14/1 says he scores twice or more in a game for the second time in a week.
Another thing we can expect is goals – and plenty of them. Nine of Real’s last 10 games have produced three or more. So have seven of Der FCB’s. That means the 6/1 for Madrid to win and Both Teams to Score looks like an excellent shout.
But while we think Zidane’s men will edge this one, you’re almost always guaranteed to see the hosts register when Robert Lewandowski plays. The Polish hitman is on fire right now, and there’s 4/5 on offer for him to get his name on the scoresheet.
