Arsenal planning for the future, but odds say Wenger WILL be around

The Wenger Out brigade may have dusted off their banners and displayed them in every corner of the globe over the last few weeks. But it seems to have had very little influence on the Arsenal board’s decision, if the latest odds are anything to go by.

Despite being some seven points off a top four spot in the Premier League with seven games to go, AND having led the Gunners to seven defeats in all competitions since the turn of the year, our traders now make it just a 1/2 shot that Arsene Wenger is in charge on the opening day of the 2017-18 season.

And everything points towards that being the case.

For starters, wouldn’t he have already told us if he was going?

Think about it. This is the worst run of form the North London outfit have ever been on under the Frenchman. For the first time in Wenger’s reign, bitter rivals Tottenham Hotspur will finish above Arsenal, and there’s every chance the side will miss out on a Champions League place.

After everything supporters have witnessed this season, it would’ve hardly been a surprise to have seen the 67-year-old announce he was leaving. He’s been under pressure since way back in January, when the Gunners dropped crucial points in the race for the title at home to Watford.

Instead, it looks as though we’re seeing deals being put in place for the club’s high earners. We’re seeing big names being linked with a move to the Emirates this summer. We’ve even seen a player agree to sign for Arsenal in July (Sead Kolasinac).

By our reckoning, that means Wenger will be in charge, making that 1/2 look like an absolute steal.

Of course he will be.

Because if he’d decided to call time on his managerial career in North London at the end of the season, then these kind of decisions would be left to his successor in the summer.
