Arsenal now clear odds-on favourites for Barca star this summer

Reports in the last 24 hours are suggesting Arsenal could be about to pull off a huge transfer coup this summer, with Arsene Wenger expected to tie up a deal for Barcelona and Turkey star Arda Turan.

And the latest odds certainly suggest a move could take place when the transfer window opens.

The Gunners are now just 2/5 to be Turan’s next port of call as the French boss looks to strengthen his squad for a title push next season – shorter than any other club by some distance.

The versatile forward will certainly offer the North London outfit something different should he sign in the coming months.

His strength and creativity on the ball are traits Wenger looks for in a midfielder, and the former Atletico Madrid ace certainly ticks those boxes.

Add to that the experience of playing in a multiple trophy-winning side, with an understanding of the Champions League, signing Turan would undoubtedly be a step in the right direction for the Gunners.

The Turkey international has struggled to force his way into the Barcelona starting XI since arriving at the Camp Nou two years ago for a fee of £29m – but that’s something Arsenal could benefit from.

Turan has started just 21 of La Liga games for the Catalan giants since his switch from Madrid, meaning his current club can’t deman too excessive a sum from the Premier League side.

Having turned 30 earlier this year, it’s likely Wenger would only have to part ways with £20m for Turan’s services as he approaches the final few years of his career at the top of the game.

And when you look at some of the astronomical figures being placed on Europe’s finest talents, you’d have to say that sum would be considered a steal.
