Arsenal and Man United to battle for Everton rock Gueye

Published:

Everton midfielder Idrissa Gueye is set to be the centre of a tug-of-war this summer, if the weekend’s press is to be believed.

Both Arsenal and Manchester United are eyeing up the 27-year-old, who has been with the Toffees for less than 12 months.

Having seen the impact of N’Golo Kante at Leicester and Chelsea, Gueye has produced very similar statistics at both Aston Villa and Everton.

But with Kante tied up at Stamford Bridge, Gueye is now the man in demand, and according to Squawka, is making an interception every 36 minutes, ahead of the Chelsea ace on 38.

The Senegal international’s contract at Goodison Park runs until 2020, but valued at just £10m by transfermarkt.co.uk, neither Arsenal nor Man United are unlikely to be put off by price.

Everton paid £7m to sign Gueye from Aston Villa last summer, but they could be set to make a rapid and significant windfall.

The Gunners are still seeking some top-quality midfield steel, following the lukewarm performances of Granit Xhaka this season.

And Man United boss Jose Mourinho is increasingly on the lookout for someone to succeed 35-year-old Michael Carrick at Old Trafford.

But our traders fancy it’s Arsenal who will win it, with 7/4 saying Gueye signs for the Gunners.

A move to Man United is 3/1, with 4/1 saying he makes a profile move across town to Liverpool.
