Willie Gibson named Ladbrokes League 1 Player of the Month

Willie Gibson picked up the Ladbrokes League 1 Manager of the Month award for February then praised the impact of new boss Stevie Farrell.

The Stair Park winger was rewarded with the gong after hitting three goals and inspiring the team to an unbeaten month.

Their two wins and two draws has seen The Blues move away from the relegation danger and given them an outside chance of stealing the final promotion play-off place.

And Gibson believes it’s the confidence Farrell has instilled in the squad that’s allowed them to forget about their poor first half of the season.

In an exclusive interview with Ladbrokes News, Gibson said: “When the manager told me I’d won, it was a pleasant surprise.

“I’m delighted to win a personal award like that and it only shows how well Stranraer have been doing of late as well.

“It’s difficult to put my finger on the change. The new manager has come in and put a new spin on things.

“The boys that were there before are the same that are playing now, but playing slightly different.

“And the one thing that’s been missing is confidence and that comes from the new manager coming in and the way he talks, treats and respects the players. He puts faith in us to go out and do a job.”

Next up for Stranraer is a tricky fixture against table-topping Livingston. However, the Stair Park outfit’s recent form, coupled with their respectable 0-0 draw the last time these sides met, will give them plenty of confidence.
