Why AC Milan are worth backing at 16/1 to sign Liverpool outcast Daniel Sturridge

Published:

If Daniel Sturridge is to stop his career fading into the abyss at 27 years of age, then he really needs to leave Liverpool ASAP.

Injuries have ruined Sturridge’s last few years, while Jurgen Klopp quickly made clear upon becoming Liverpool boss that the England international isn’t the player for him.

And the signing of Sadio Mane from Southampton last summer pushed Sturridge further towards the Anfield exit.

The former Chelsea and Manchester City forward has made just 14 Premier League appearances this term, and the real kicker is that only five of those have been starting positions.

And Klopp has confirmed in recent days that he and Sturridge will discuss the 27-year-old’s future at the end of the season.

With a contract running until 2019, Liverpool could cash in nicely this summer on the man who fired in 21 goals from just 29 league games in the 2013-14 campaign.

But where will the striker go?

West Ham, Arsenal and Paris Saint-Germain lead the betting at 5/1, but there’s a good argument to support a move to AC Milan at 16s.

Since reaching Champions League finals in 2005 and 2007, AC have seen Juventus take over to dominate the scene in Italy.

But the San Siro outfit have now been taken over by a Chinese consortium, and after years in the relative doldrums, are set for a big push.

They’re set to spend big this summer on numerous players in a bid to return to the top echelons of the game.

And it’s believed they’re targeting Sturridge as one such acquisition.

Current forward Carlos Bacca has been repeatedly tipped with leaving Milan this summer, and Sturridge would represent one of the few quality strikers readily available.

Plus, the England international need only look at what Joe Hart has achieved with Torino to prove that a move abroad needn’t ruin a career.

AC are no strangers to signing Three Lions players’ either, counting on both David Beckham, Ray Wilkins Mark Hateley down the years.

At 16/1 our traders aren’t so sure, but we say there could be more to this link as the summer approaches.
