What’s wrong with Arsenal? In truth, the list is simply endless

Ask any neutral football fan which side frustrates them the most and the answer will be unanimous: Arsenal Football Club. Once again, the Gunners have dropped points in a crucial game, and this Liverpool defeat emphasised just how much is wrong with the North London outfit.

No doubt Arsenal Fan TV will receive hundreds of thousands of views in the comings days from opposing fans laughing at what Gooners have to say.

And yes, they have a right to laugh, but it’s hard not to sympathise with some of Arsenal’s most loyal followers.

In truth it’s hard to compile Arsenal’s problems into one small article, but we’ll try our best…

This is NOT an elite side

Francis Coquelin, Nacho Monreal, Alex Iwobi, Granit Xhaka and Olivier Giroud.

Answer us this – can you really see any of these players with Premier League medals around their necks?

They’re solid back-up options for top four hopefuls at best.

And yet between them, they boast 83 Premier League starts this season alone.

Time and time again they’ve been embarrassed this campaign by clubs they consider to be in the same bracket as them. It’s just not good enough, and we can’t keep kidding ourselves that they’ll eventually come good.

It’s all just fun and games

1-O down after nine minutes against a side who know a win will see them leapfrog their opponents into fourth place in the league.

The ball goes out of play and the camera cuts to the substitutes bench to find Alexis Sanchez with a smile on his face, laughing with Gabriel right behind Arsene Wenger.

Of course, no player wants to be dropped for such a huge game, but to act so relaxed about what he’s watching leaves us asking whether a player with that attitude really wants to be at the club.

Not only that, but Iwobi and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain attended an event in the week with a whole host of Europe’s best players, showcasing their skills in front of a small crowd in London.

Go back 15 years and ask yourself with question – would Thierry Henry, Robert Pires, Dennis Bergkamp or Patrick Vieira have ever been spotted at such an event – three days before a massive fixture?

The answer is no.

Wenger is certainly to blame

Nobody knows where the Arsenal boss will be at the start of next season, and that uncertainty is clearly having an effect on both the players and the supporters.

On the subject of the manager, he made a decision to rest Sanchez today in favour of Giroud, with Iwobi, Oxlade-Chamberlain and Danny Welbeck playing behind the French striker.

Clearly, the tactic was to hit Liverpool on the counter attack.

But when the hosts took the lead, they were never going to give their opponents such an opportunity – and yet Wenger failed to make a change until half-time.

It’s extremely difficult being an Arsenal fan right now. And quite simply, sniggering at Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspurs woes doesn’t constitute to a successful season.

Changes have to be made in the summer.
