It’s 5/1 for there to be a snap General Election on May 4 2017, following rumours that the Government could be about to call a vote.

Meanwhile, it’s just 2/1 Prime Minster Theresa May calls an election before the end of year.

May is reportedly under pressure from senior Tory leaders amid growing calls for the PM to secure her own mandate for Brexit.

And with local elections already due to take place in May there appears to be a growing consensus that the ruling party could strike while the iron is hot.

It’s still 4/5 that the next General Election is called for 2020 or later but those odds could be blown out of the water if the latest reports ring true.

Jessica Bridge of Ladbrokes said: “Punters are erring on the side of caution with regards to May 4, but it hasn’t stopped some shrewd money coming in for a General Election at any point in 2017, which has seen the odds cut accordingly.”
