Two points clear with a game in hand – is there any stopping Real Madrid?

They missed out on last season’s top spot in La Liga by a point. But it doesn’t look as though we’ll be seeing a repeat of that table this time around, with Real Madrid taking no prisoners in their latest title bid.
As things stand, they’re two points clear of Barcelona with a game in hand. There are 12 league games left for Zinedine Zidane’s men to play and they’re a 4/11 shot to win their first La Liga trophy since the 2011-12 campaign.
But in truth, they’ve already done the majority of the hard work this season.

They’ve already travelled to the Camp Nou and taken a point, they managed the same away at Sevilla and breezed past Atletico Madrid 3-0 on their travels.
That means the remaining trio in the top four will all have to travel to the Bernabeu between now and the end of the season – and it’s a place where few tend to succeed.
In fact, only two La Liga sides have won in the Spanish capital since the 2010-11 campaign. Astonishing.
The next quintet of fixtures for Los Blancos may be crucial, and they could quite easily bridge that gap between themselves and Barcelona further between now and April 16.
That’s because three of their next five fixtures come against sides placed 10th or lower in the table right now. And they’ve already taken three points from all five of their upcoming opponents once this season.
Their nearest challengers, however, have a much tougher month or so ahead and don’t look especially great value at 15/8 to win the league.
Two of their next five opponents are currently in the top six. And having already dropped nine points at home so far this season, the fact that three of their next five fixtures are at the Camp Nou doesn’t mean all that much in the grand scheme of things.
It’s a stadium which seems to have lost its fear factor in the last few months. (Unless you play for Paris Saint-Germain).
As for Sevilla, they were well in this title race until two games ago. But back-to-back draws against Alaves and Leganes have left Jorge Sampaoli’s men five points off the pace and out to 25/1 to achieve the unthinkable come May.
Were Real Madrid to win their game in hand, they’d be some 13 points ahead of Atletico Madrid.
