Through Irish Eyes: Dundalk headline 18/1 League of Ireland treble

Published:

A potential early season league decider is brewing in the SSE Airtricity League this weekend as International week winds down for the Irish.

Dundalk to beat Cork

Talking about league deciders six games into the season seems like absolute madness but a win here would put Cork six points clear and Dundalk have themselves proved how vital the early season lead has been in recent seasons.

Dundalk seem to be slowly finding their groove so this season and you get a feeling Patrick McElleny’s superb solo goal against St. Pats could be the beginning of him growing into his new role as star man in this team.

Cork have yet to tests themselves against one of the leagues proven big teams so far. So with that in mind, an odds against price for last years league winners seems a good bet here. Dundalk are currently priced at 21/10.

Shamrock Rovers to beat St.Pats

The Dublin derby clash between St.Pats and Shamrock rovers should be equally as passionate but nowhere near as close.

St Pats are bottom of the league having only scored 3 and conceded 10. Their defence is abysmal and there is no momentum left in this team or this Liam Buckley reign by the looks of it.

Despite them being the home team, the mood at the club doesn’t suggest Richmond Park is a fortress. At an odds against price, I would take most teams in the league to beat St,Pats at the moment.

Rovers have only lost against the top three teams in the league so far and look set to pick up all three points against their fierce rivals.

Bray v Limerick – Both Teams To Score

Here’s hoping for a goalfest between Limerick and Bray to round off our treble.

Limerick have been a bit disappointing since their 5-1 thrashing of Sligo in week one, but their attacking style and the form of Brazilian journeyman-poacher Rodrigo Tosi will likely see them grab a few goals here. Bray meanwhile have been the entertainers in the league so far.

They are joint top scorers in the league with 13 goals, but also boast the second worst defensive record having conceded 11.

So backing Both Teams To Score market looks an obvious selection here, and rounds off my weekend treble at a handy 18/1.
