The Free 3: Man United, Sunderland & Chelsea men set for exits

If you thought last summer’s transfer window was an exciting one, then you’ll want to strap yourselves in for plenty more comings and goings when this season draws to a close.

But while we’re expecting another total spend figure close to the £1bn mark in the Premier League, not every player will come at such a price – and that’s including three men who’ve accumulated a staggering 252 senior England caps.

The latest odds from are trading team are suggesting that this trio are all leaving their current clubs, but where could they be going?

Wayne Rooney – 1/4 to leave Man United this summer

The England and Man United skipper is looking increasingly likely to leave Old Trafford this summer – and this is now the shortest price he’s been to leave the club at the end of this campaign.

He’d been linked with a move to the Chinese Super League, and was widely expected to make the switch last month – although a deal failed to materialise. And that’s left boyhood club Everton leading the way for Wazza’s signature.

It’s even thought that Red Devil chiefs would waive any transfer fee were the 31-year-old to return to Merseyside – with reports suggesting he’d also be willing to take a 50 per cent pay cut to just £150k a week (how will he manage?!) to return to Goodison Park.

Jermain Defoe – 1/20 to leave Sunderland this summer

The Black Cats may be running out of luck in their quest to keep hold of Defoe. And no one could begrudge him a move away from the Stadium of Light.

He may be 34-years-old, but he’s shown over the last two seasons that he’s still got plenty to offer in the Premier League.

And with Sunderland some seven points off safety, it’s looks like he may need to move on in the summer if he’s to add to the 157 top-flight goals he’s bagged throughout his career.

And were the north-east outfit to go down, it’s believed the England international would be available on the free, paving the way for long-time admirers West Ham to make a move.

John Terry – 1/50 to leave Chelsea this summer

It goes without saying that if Antonio Conte was in charge of Chelsea say 10 years ago, Terry would have been the perfect defender for him.

But aged 36, his best years are certainly behind him now, and he’s played just five league games for the Blues this season.

That’s not to say his career in the top-flight is over though, and there’ll be plenty of interest from clubs in the division when the transfer window opens.

If the latest odds are anything to go by, we’d be astounded if Terry is still at Stamford Bridge next year – but who’ll win the race for his signature?

Tony Pulis has expressed an interest in bringing the centre-half to West Brom, while plenty believe he could follow in the footsteps of the likes of Frank Lampard and Steven Gerrard who both saw out their playing careers in America.
