Surprises galore in World Cup qualifying as Belgium are held

If you’ve followed our international accas this weekend, we can only apologise. For thanks to a bizarre number of results, our punts were left in tatters.
Lets start with the Netherlands, who, having failed to qualify for last summer’s Euros, were sitting nicely in second place in Group A for World Cup for 2018.
But the Dutch’s hopes – and most people’s bets – have been left in ruins after a 2-0 defeat hammering away at Bulgaria.
It leaves Oranje a full six points off group leaders France, and three points behind Sweden, who occupy the play-off spot.
But the Dutch weren’t alone in surprising football fans last night. Their neighbours Belgium did too.
Having walloped in 21 goals in their first four qualifiers, many expected Roberto Martinez’s men to see off Greece with ease.
But they needed an 89th minute equaliser from Romelu Lukaku to ensure they stayed top of the group with a 1-1 draw.
We called that one wrong too.
And amazingly, we tipped up the Faroe Islands to beat Andorra, just as the hosts managed to end their 58-game losing streak.
The Pyrenees outfit battled hard in a game which saw eight yellow cards and one red, to earn their first World Cup qualifying points since 2005.
Great for them, bad for punters.
