Scotland v Canada: Expect hosts to win – but not without a scare

Published:

Scotland will be looking for a lift ahead of their crucial World Cup qualifier against Slovenia, as they welcome Canada to Easter Road. And we reckon the hosts will secure a morale-boosting win, but not without shipping a goal (or two) along the way.

Gordon Strachan’s men have been good at home in recent times, with six victories from the last 10 games.

That’s included wins over the likes of Denmark, Northern Ireland and Republic of Ireland – all of whom are a minimum of 69 places above the Canucks in the FIFA World Rankings.

So, in the match betting, Scotland look like a safe bet to win at 4/11, with the draw priced at 10/3 and Canada 17/2 to pull off a shock victory.

And the visitors are unlikely to contain the talented Steven Fletcher on Wednesday night.

The Sheffield Wednesday striker netted seven times during Euro 2016 Qualifying, and also put away a deft header in the Scots’ last victory, away at Malta.

He’s 11/10 to score anytime, while 33/1 says the experienced hitman scores a third international hat-trick since the start of 2015.

But the visitors aren’t without firepower of their own up front. Dundee’s Marcus Haber is a name well-known to Scottish football fans, and following three goals in his last seven games for the Dark Blues, we wouldn’t bet against him netting anytime here at 4/1.

One thing we are sure to see is goals. Six of Canada’s last seven games have produced three or more goals, as have four of Scotland’s last five. It’s Evens that we see Over 2.5 Goals, while Over 3.5 is priced up at 13/5.

And with the signs pointing towards the hosts edging this, we’re tipping up Scotland to win and Both Teams to Score – enhanced from 3/1 to 7/2.
