Put your banners away, Arsenal fans – Wenger odds-on to stay

Published:

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger told us last month he’d make a decision on his future in ‘March or April’. But so far, all the signs are pointing towards the 67-year-old staying on at the Emirates for at least another season.

And that’s exactly what our traders think too, as they’re offering odds of just 10/11 that he remains in charge on the opening day of the 2017-18 campaign.

In a press conference at the tail end of last month, Wenger stated that he intends to stay in management for at least another four years.

And at this stage of his career, it’s hard to envisage him spending that time with any club other than the one he knows best – Arsenal.

And if you wanted any more confirmation that the French boss will be staying in north London for the foreseeable future, you just have to read the latest reports suggesting that he’s turned down a £30m-a-year offer to go and work in China.

Given the lack of elite jobs available in world football right now, the only place we saw Wenger heading – were he to leave Arsenal – would have been to Asia, especially given that he spent a year in Japan managing Nagoya Grampus Eight before taking over at Highbury.

But it looks as though Arsenal’s most successful manager of all-time won’t be swayed by the money seemingly available to him in the Far East.

So the #wengerout fans might want to put their banners away for now, as it looks like their boss is going nowhere soon.

What do fans think? Is it time for a change at the Emirates? Or should a decision be made at the end of the season?
