Odds slashed on Southampton signing Man City outcast this summer

All eyes will be on Joe Harts next destination when he returns to Manchester City this summer after a season-long loan at Serie A outfit Torino. The Italian side have announced that they won’t be making the deal a permanent one, leaving plenty of clubs on red alert.
And red is very much the colour currently at the head of the market right now, with Arsenal continuing to lead the way in the race for the England international’s signature at 7/4.
They’re just ahead of Liverpool in the running, who remain a 5/2 shot with both Simon Mignolet and Loris Karius’ futures remaining uncertain.
But while this duo looked set to do battle for Hart’s services in pre-season, it seems there’s another Premier League club ready to throw their hat into the ring.
Step forward Southampton.
Current Saints shotstopper Fraser Forster has hardly been a dominant presence in-between the sticks at St Mary’s this season, and it’s been suggested that this could be his last year with the south-coast outfit.
That paves the way for Hart’s potential arrival – especially given that Man City boss Pep Guardiola has already stated the 29-year-old has no future at the Etihad.
And there could be some value in the 4/1 currently on offer for Hart to team up with Nathan Redmond and co, especially when you consider the Saints weren’t even in the running the last time we opened this market..
That’s because the Gunners already boast a world-class shotstopper who would take some shifting in Petr Cech, not to mention the reliability of David Ospina currently on the bench for Arsenal.
And we’ve seen plenty of examples in recent months of Jurgen Klopp’s willingness to put faith into his current crop of stars, rather than spending big on new arrivals.
At 7/1, it’s unlikely he’ll settle for a place of the Man City bench, while every club behind the Citizens in the market look to be rank outsiders.
So if Southampton were on the hunt for a replacement for Forster, they should look no further than England’s number one.
