Odds-on Everton edging Liverpool in battle to sign Dutch dynamo

Published:

Everton look set to receive a major boost to their ranks, with Ajax captain and midfield maestro Davy Klaassen now odds-on to head to the blue half of Merseyside.

The Godenzonen captain has netted 16 times and recorded an impressive seven assists this season – and has proven himself a talismanic presence for the Amsterdam club, with whom he won three Eredivisie titles on the bounce.

However, speculation of a move to England has continued to intensify, and he’s now on course to head to Goodison Park, with odds of 10/11 for compatriot Ronald Koeman to secure the Dutchman’s signature.

But we could see a bidding war erupt on Merseyside, with Liverpool next in the betting at 4/1 to snap up the 24-year-old.

They’re followed by Koeman’s former club Southampton (5/1) and 6/1 shots Manchester United, who already boast former Ajax men Tim Fosu-Mensah and Daley Blind in their ranks.

And there’s even an outside chance Klaassen could really enrage fans of his current club by switching allegiance to Eredivisie rivals PSV Eindhoven (10/1) or Feyenoord (12/1).

A Ladbrokes spokesperson said: “Everton could be set for a huge boost in the form of Dutch football’s hottest talent. Get Klaassen in, and a serious top four challenge will be on the cards next season.”
