Moyes looking to Besiktas ace to boost Sunderland midfield

Published:

Sunderland could be set to add a much-needed dash of top midfield talent to their ranks this summer in the form of Besiktas lynchpin Tolgay Arslan. But getting the deal done could well depend on which division the Black Cats find themselves in this summer.

The 26-year-old has been a vital part of the Turkish giants’ impressive campaign this term, with Kara Kartallar currently sitting top of the Super Lig.

He’s currently chalked up four assists in the league so far this season, which – sorry, Sunderland fans – is one more than all your midfielders have managed combined in 2016-17.

Add to that the fact Arslan boasts an astonishing 91 per cent pass completion rate and has won an impressive 57 per cent of duels this season – and it’s obvious to see that he has both the steel, skill and end product the Black Cats are sorely lacking in the middle of the park.

And with less than 18 months remaining on his contract, he could be available for a very modest fee.

With Transfermarkt.co.uk rating the former Hamburg man’s current market value at £5.1m, it would signify a real bargain for David Moyes if he could pay a fee of around that amount.

Next up for the Wearside outfit is a huge clash against Burnley at the Stadium of Light on Saturday, with the hosts 6/4 for victory.

Secure a crucial victory and their shot at Premier League survival (currently 11/2) and of signing Arslan this summer could quickly start to look more likely.
