Middlesbrough v Man United: Visitors to edge low-scoring affair

Published:

Middlesbrough just can’t find the net. It’s been their problem all season, but especially so in recent weeks – with the Teesside club failing to score in their last four games. And while Man United aren’t firing on all cylinders right now, they’re still likely to take maximum points on Sunday lunchtime.

The hosts are currently mired in the relegation zone, and parted ways with manager Aitor Karanka in midweek following a dismal run of form which has seen them take just four points from their last 10 Premier League games, and fail to score in each of the last four.

Not that they’re getting hammered in games, though. Only one side have managed to put more than two goals past Boro during those 10 games, and the North-East outfit actually have the joint-best defensive record outside of the top six.

That means that while United look likely to take three points at the Riverside, victory will most likely come by a narrow margin – with the visitors 6/4 to win to nil, and 9/2 to finish with a 1-0 victory.

One thing Boro fans will be relieved about is their side avoiding an encounter with Zlatan Ibrahimovic, with the prolific Swede suspended for this clash. So the impetus will fall on the Red Devils’ other creative talents to do the damage.#

Juan Mata has already scored in five games since the start of 2017, including the winner against FC Rostov on Thursday night. It’s 9/5 for the Spaniard to add to his tally at the Riverside, while 13/2 says he opens the scoring for the eighth time this season.

However, if you’re still not 100 per cent sold on United edging this one, there looks to be a banker available at 4/6 in the form of Both Teams to Score – No. Only three of Boro’s last 14 league games have seen both sides find the net.

In the match betting, Man United are 8/11 favourites, with Boro 9/2 and the draw priced up at 13/5.
