Manchester United cut for Europa League success after Rostov draw

It had the potential to be a tricky trip abroad, but Manchester United’s 1-1 draw with FK Rostov last night ensured they remain Europa League favourites.

On a difficult pitch and after a long flight, the Premier League outfit will be relieved to head back for the second-leg all-square, and with an away goal.

The result saw United’s odds trimmed, with odds of 2/1 earlier in the week now 7/4.

Red Devils boss Jose Mourinho has also admitted that the tournament may represent United’s best chance to reach next season’s Champions League.

The big movers in the chasing pack are Lyon, with the traders cutting the French outfit’s odds from 11/1 to 5/1 following their impressive 4-2 win over Roma.

And the reverse effect has seen the side from the Italian capital drift from 6s to 10s.

Many will argue however, that outside of those two clubs, United will have little to fear.

The Romans sit alongside Celta Vigo and Borussia Monchengladbach in the betting.

Celta needed a last-minute winner to win at home to Krasnodar, while Gladbach will feel they have the edge after a 1-1 draw away at Bundesliga rivals Schalke.

Besiktas are at 14s following their 1-1 result away at Olympiakos, ahead of Schalke at 16/1.

Tottenham’s conqueror’s Ghent had a night to forget however, as they went down 5-2  at home to Belgian compatriots Genk.

In the busiest game of the night, the Jupiler League duo shared seven goals, with the visitors 4-1 up by the interval.

And it wasn’t much of a successful evening for goalkeepers either, with 15 of the 16 sides finding the back of the net, as only Apoel Nicosia drew a blank at home to Anderlecht.
