Man City v Liverpool: Reds’ head-to-head record points to victory

Jurgen Klopp - Liverpool odds

Liverpool may be priced up as 11/4 outsiders for victory at the Etihad this weekend, but there’s plenty of evidence to suggest the Reds will continue their fine record against Manchester City.

Jurgen Klopp’s men have won five of their last six meetings against the Citizens, including a 4-1 mauling here back in November 2015.

And City just can’t cope with the attacking talent at their visitors’ disposal. They haven’t kept a single clean sheet in any of the last 14 meetings, though they have scored in 10 of those themselves – so expect goals.

The hosts will also be worried by the fact that Liverpool are winning the big games right now. Three victories in their last four Premier League games have included triumphs over Arsenal (3-1) and Tottenham (2-0).

In fact, they haven’t lost to a side in the top-half of the table in this league campaign, a sequence which has included victory at Stamford Bridge.

By contrast, the Citizens – who endured a physically and emotionally exhausting exit to Monaco in the Champions League in midweek – have struggled against the top sides. They’ve already lost once to Liverpool this season, as well as defeats to the likes of Chelsea, Tottenham and Everton.

So Liverpool look good value for victory at 11/4, with the same price on offer for the draw, and Evens available for a City win.

And the man we’re tipping to do the damage? Sadio Mane, of course. The Senegalese striker has been a revelation since his summer move from Southampton, and chalked up three goals in his past four games. It’s 5/1 for Mane to score and Liverpool to win, while 2/1 says he simply finds the net anytime.

If Mane’s on form, the Merseysiders could run riot. After all, they’ve won nine Prem games by two or more goals this season, so the 8/1 for a Liverpool -1 handicap could be an inspired bet.

However, with City having found the net in 12 of their last 15 matches, we reckon they will at least manage one goal, and the 6/1 for Liverpool to win and Both Teams to Score is already proving popular, especially having been bumped up from 5/1. Speaking of which…
