Koeman out, Rooney in? Everton preparing for hectic summer of changes

Published:

Everton are the in-form team of the Premier League right now, having picked up more points than Chelsea, Arsenal, Manchester City and Liverpool in 2017. And that’s largely been down to manager Ronald Koeman, who looks to have finally found a winning formula at Goodison Park after a mid-season blip.

But despite arriving from Southampton less than nine months ago, the latest odds are suggesting he could be heading for an early exit, with a former club eyeing him up as their potential new manager.

Barcelona last night announced the news that boss Luis Enrique would be stepping down at the end of the season, leading our traders to open up a market for his successor.

As things stand, Jorge Sampaoli and Ernesto Valverde lead the way for the soon-to-be vacant post at 5/2 and 11/4 respectively.

But just behind them are Koeman (5/1) and Arsene Wenger (6/1), although the latter has already ruled himself out of the running.

But while Everton fans may be bracing themselves for an early Koeman exit, the latest odds are suggesting they could be about to welcome a familiar face back to Goodison Park.

With talk of a move to the Chinese Super League having now died down, reports are now suggesting that Manchester United and England’s all-time goalscorer Wayne Rooney could be heading back to Merseyside to see out his career.

Odds of an Everton return were shortened to 10/11 earlier this week following comments from Koeman suggesting the club would make an offer for the striker.

But they’ve continued to fall in the last few days, and our traders now make it just 4/5 for Rooney to sign for the Toffees.

And with the future of Romelu Lukaku still very much up in the air, it looks as though it’ll be a hectic summer in the blue half of Merseyside.
