Everton tipped to make another move for Swansea star Sigurdsson

There’s little question that Swansea have benefitted greatly from having Gylfi Sigurdsson among their ranks, but the Welsh club will face a fight to keep him this summer.

The Iceland international has been a shining star for the Swans across the past two seasons, and has proven especially integral in his side’s bid to avoid Premier League relegation.

With eight goals and 11 assists, the 27-year-old has directly contributed to 19 of Swansea’s 36 league goals this season, and it’s not hard to imagine how much trouble they would be in without him.

But this week the press claim that Everton are preparing to make a move this summer.

It will be particularly hard for Swansea to keep hold of the Reykjavik-born star should they go down, who is valued at £17m by transfermarkt.co.uk.

It’s not known if Sigurdsson’s contract – which runs until 2020 – includes a release clause, but the Toffees did have a £28m bid rejected last summer.

Additional factors in this potential deal are Romelu Lukaku and Ross Barkley.

Speculation has been rife that the Belgian hitman will leave Goodison Park this summer, after rejecting a new five-year deal.

So Sigurdsson could be signed to help stem the damage should Lukaku leave, or equally, he could be brought as part of the bid to persuade Everton’s number 10 to stay on Merseyside.

Similarly, plenty of column inches have tipped Barkley for a move elsewhere, despite the fact he’s enjoyed a fine season at Goodison under Ronald Koeman.

Signing Sigurdsson would go some way to filling that void, but again, an Everton side containing the Iceland international alongside Barkley and Lukaku would be fascinating to watch.

Koeman was rejected by the Swans a year ago, but should they go down this season, they will hold little power to deny the Dutchman second time around.
