Dustin Johnson and Jon Rahm hold the Masters momentum

The first Major of the year is almost upon us, but according to the formbook, who are expecting to shine in the Masters next week?

Well to be honest, we needn’t look much further than Augusta favourite Dustin Johnson.

DJ is in scintillating form right now, and landed the WGC Matchplay last weekend.

That took his 2017 campaign to a stunning three wins on the spin, and the American has also become the first player to win all four WGC events.

So given that Johnson’s last seven results read; 1,1,1,3,CUT, 6,3, there’s no surprise whatsoever that our traders make him 5/1 favourite to win a second Major next weekend.

But DJ isn’t the only man in form.

Step forward, Jon Rahm.

The Spaniard is touted as the next big thing, but in truth, he’s already a headline name.

Rahm will be making not just his Masters bow next weekend, but his Major debut.

The 22-year-old posted some excellent results at the end of the 2016 season, and landed his first PGA Tour win this January at the Farmers Insurance Open.

And that victory has simply opened the floodgates for Rahm, who has since finished fifth at the AT&T Pebble Beach, third at the WGC Mexico Championships and was runner-up in last weekend’s WGC Matchplay.

All eyes will be on Rahm this weekend as he competes in the Shell Houston Open, but another strong result will only consolidate the view that he is in perfect form for a mega Major debut.

And another man showing a handy turn of Masters momentum is Rory McIlroy.

A rib injury in January threatened to derail the Northern Irishman’s season – particularly his Masters chances – but Rory has been on song since his comeback.

He may have suffered an early exit in the World Matchplay, but the 27-year-old has posted a seventh and a fourth the two prior events.

And after hitting a 65 in both the Arnold Palmer Invitational and WGC Mexico, McIlroy is showing ominous flashes of brilliance as Augusta looms.
