Doncaster v Plymouth: Who will prevail in League Two table-topper?

Published:

The international break allows Leagues One and Two to take centre stage this weekend, with the headline fixture arguably Doncaster Rovers versus Plymouth Argyle.

The pair lead the way in the fourth-tier, and are ten points clear of the rest.

With promotion to League One is all but a matter of time, this contest is all about who wins the League Two title.

Going up a division may be the aim for owners, but a trophy is what fans and players want to win.

Doncaster hold a six-point lead, but Plymouth have a game in hand, which, if they win in Yorkshire this weekend, could see the Pilgrims move level.

But our traders make Doncaster 3/4 favourites, and that’s no surprise given the Yorkshire outfit are unbeaten on home soil this season.

The visitors are the 15/4 outsiders, while a draw is 5/2.

Plymouth won the reverse tie 2-0 at Home Park, but since then Doncaster have lost just once in 18 games.

The Devonshire outfit have lost four times in that spell however, while they’ve won only three of their last nine.

Donny’s last result saw them hammer Leyton Orient 4-1, with top-scorer John Marquis grabbing a brace.

That took the 24-year-old’s tally to 22 for the season, including 12 of those coming in his last 14 appearances.

Given his form, Marquis understandably leads the first goalscorer betting at 4/1.

Graham Carey is leading the way for Argyle this term with 12 strikes, including three in his last five.

But two of those three goals have been the opener, so the 7/1 on the Republic of Ireland man breaking the deadlock should appeal.
