Cheltenham Day 4 Tips: John can grab Gold Cup glory for Jessica

Sizing John - Cheltenham Gold Cup odds

Willie Mullins has a spring in his step, Ruby Walsh is in contention to land another Cheltenham Top Jockey prize and the Irish are still probably celebrating a rampant St. Patrick’s Thursday.

Yes, a lot can happen in the space of 24 hours.

And in what seems like the blink of an eye we’re already approaching the final chapter. But before we pack up for another year let’s look ahead to one last installment of Festival joy.

Because what lies before us on Gold Cup day could be something truly special.

For starters, there are three fascinating Grade 1 contests – the Triumph Hurdle, Albert Bartlett Novices’ Hurdle and the Gold Cup itself.

And if the betting for the big one is anything to go by, we’re in for a real treat.

But let’s go from the top.

Defi Du Seuil has swatted aside all comers in his short career thus far, including in key trials at Prestbury Park.

That form looks rock-solid but Nicky Henderson refuses to rule out Charli Parcs while Master Blueyes also has to enter contention following his stunning victory at Kempton last time out.

Greatwood Handicap Hurdle winner North Hill Harvey has to be respected in the County Hurdle but we’re prepared to take him on with the Gordon Elliott-trained Mick Jazz.

He took Listed honours at Punchestown last time out and was only narrowly beaten by this week’s shock Supreme Novices’ Hurdle winner Labaik earlier in the season.

The same trainer fields Death Duty in the Albert Bartlett, a horse that looks destined for even bigger prizes further on in his career. But first of all, he has to dispatch of course hero, Wholestone.

And then comes the biggest race of them all – the Gold Cup.

The market can’t seem to separate Native River, Cue Card and Djakadam but we’re looking elsewhere

Irish Gold Cup winner Sizing John has been stepped up in trip but he keeps on showing his class. Only the mighty (can we still say that?) Douvan has beaten him at the Festival.

But this Friday, his trainer Jessica Harrington will have the last laugh.

In the closing contests, we’re opposing last year’s Foxhunter hero On The Fringe and instead going with fellow veteran, Paint The Clouds.

Coo Star Sivola is our pick in the 16:50 with Le Prezien, a Grade 2 winner here in November, tipped in the 28th, and final, race of the meeting.
