Atletico v Leverkusen: No chance of a Barca-esque turnaround in Madrid

It will be overlooked on these shores tonight by Manchester City’s trip to Monaco, but Atletico Madrid versus Bayer Leverkusen could prove equally entertaining. It certainly did three weeks ago.

The Spanish outfit landed a 4-2 success in the first leg, and odds of 1/200 to progress suggest they’ve got this in the bag.

Leverkusen are 20/1 to go through, but even though Barcelona turned around odds of 100/1, we just can’t see it happening here.

The German outfit have to win by at least two goals, meaning they need to score three times at the Vicente Calderon.

And that has been an incredible rare thing for Los Rojiblancos under Diego Simeone. In fact, since the Argentine took charge in 2011, Atletico have conceded three goals in just six of 151 home fixtures.

And with half of those coming to either Real Madrid or Barcelona, that leaves just three occasions in 148 games.

Plus, Leverkusen are winless since that first leg defeat, in a three-game spell which included a 6-2 hammering to Borussia Dortmund.

So while this one looks done and dusted, that doesn’t mean we can’t dig out some betting value.

Atletico to win at 8/13 appeals, while they’re 13/8 to win again on the -1 handicap.

However, the pick of the bunch looks to be a home win with both teams to score at 21/10, with the Bundesliga club netting in 22 or their last 23 fixtures.

Over 2.5 goals can be backed at 4/6, although over 3.5 stands out at 7/4.

Antoine Griezmann is continuing to tease potential suitors Manchester United with his dazzling displays, and the French ace is in fine form right now.

With six goals in his last seven games, the 25-year-old is 10/3 favourite to net first and 10/11 at any point.

But Leverkusen will have more than one problem to deal with tonight – Kevin Gameiro also boasts six goals in seven, and the 29-year-old is 4/1 to net first and 11/10 anytime.
