Arsenal v Bayern: Batterings suggest hosts set for another blow

Published:

The woes continue to pile up for Arsenal, following a 3-1 defeat at Anfield on Sunday, and when you take into account Bayern Munich’s recent form, things could well become embarrassing for the Gunners this Tuesday night.

Carlo Ancelotti’s side have netted an impressive 14 goals in their last three outings, including eight in an 8-0 demolition of Hamburg.

That’s the sort of form which will make Gooners queasy, having conceded three or more goals in three of their last five games, including that 5-1 first-leg hammering at the Allianz Arena.

While there’s little chance of Die Roten netting another eight, the -1 Bayern handicap at 11/4 looks well-priced, with each of Arsenal’s last three defeats coming by multiple goals.

However, while another defeat for the hosts looks likely, we reckon there’s still a high chance of Arsene Wenger’s men getting on the scoresheet, having netted in each of their last 19 games, so the 5/2 for Bayern to win and Both Teams to Score is well worth backing.

If the Gunners do get on the scoresheet, we think it could come from Olivier Giroud. The Frenchman has netted in six goals of his last 11 outings, and it’s 13/10 he scores anytime here.

But the most in-form hitman on the field is in the visitors’ ranks. Robert Lewandowski has netted five goals in his last three games, to take his tally to 30 for the season. And with the Pole frequently scoring in clusters, we reckon it’s the 5/2 for him to net twice or more at the Emirates which looks most worth backing.

In the match betting, Bayern are 23/20 favourites, with Arsenal 21/10 and 13/5 on offer for the draw.
