37 bouts, 37 wins, 36 KOs. That’s the form Deontay Wilder will take into Sunday morning’s clash with Gerald Washington at the Legacy Arena, Birmingham, Alabama.

But he’s up against an opponent in Gerald Washington who doesn’t have too shabby a record himself (18-0-1).

This could be a step too far for the San Jose native though, as he’s a huge 8/1 outsider to claim Wilder’s WBC World heavyweight title, while 1/16 says the Bronze Bomber retains his belt for the fifth time.

It’s no surprise to see that few have backed Wilder outright at such short odds, so where is there value to be had?

In truth, the pair couldn’t be any further apart. At 31, Wilder is three years Washington’s junior, has fought in 18 more bouts and has a 97 per cent KO rate to his opponents 63 per cent.

He’s also 28 places higher than Washington in the Independent World Boxing Rankings in third place.

And while his opponent’s record looks impressive on paper, it’s worth noting that he’s never beaten anyone ranked higher than 62 at this level.

Whereas, three of Wilder’s last five victories have come against fighters in the top 23 in the aforementioned rankings list.

While this heavyweight clash will headline a three-bout card, we’re expecting it to be over early on.

On average, Wilder’s bouts last 2.8 rounds, in comparison to Washington’s figure of 4.1 rounds-per-bout. And that figure is even more remarkable when you consider the fact that he’s fought in almost double the amount of fights as his opponent.

With that in mind, there could be some value in the 10/1 on offer for Wilder to win in round three.

And if we’re talking about method of victory, there’s only one way our traders can see this one going. At 1/4, we’re expecting plenty to get on Wilder to win by KO, TKO or DQ in the next 24 hours.

On paper, this one has got a Wilder win all over it, but can Washington upset the apple cart?
