The end for Mignolet and Karius? Liverpool lining up move for Inter ace

Published:

After facing the wrath of critics all season long, Simon Mignolet and Loris Karius could both be ousted as Liverpool goalkeepers this season.

Report this weekend claim Jurgen Klopp’s Reds are lining up a summer swoop for Inter Milan’s experienced stopper Samir Handanovic.

The 32-year-old has been with I Nerazzurri since the summer of 2012, and has barely missed a game for the Milan outfit.

Valued at £10.6m by transfermarkt.co.uk, the Slovenian international’s contract with Inter runs until 2019.

And given that Handanovic is still very much the number one, it would take a sizeable offer to lure him away from Inter.

Liverpool have endured a dismal start to 2017, winning just one of their nine games since the turn of the year.

Indeed the Merseysiders have kept just two clean sheets this year, and both of them were in the Emirates FA Cup against League Two Plymouth Argyle.

Given that they’re the top-scorers in the Premier League, we know the problem isn’t at the offensive end of the pitch.

And when you note that Liverpool have conceded – along with Manchester City – the most goals of any side in the top seven, and it’s clear where the Reds are losing out.

So we can be sure Klopp will be keen to make amends in the off-season to sort out his wayward defence.

But will that include a move for one of the best and most experienced goalkeepers on the continent?
