Manchester City are continuing to purse Lionel Messi, and are lining up a world-record £100m offer for the Barcelona superstar.

The Argentine ace has been linked with a move to the Etihad after since former Barca coach Pep Guardiola took charge last summer.

And fraction between the Barcelona players and boss Luis Enrique, has led to continued reports that a number of star men – including Messi – could leave the Camp Nou this summer.

Barca have trailed Real Madrid all season in the La Liga title race, while their Champions League hopes were all-but ended in a 4-0 hammering at Paris Saint-Germain last week.

Messi arguably enjoyed his best football under Guardiola, and between them won pretty much everything available in club football.

Their four years together included two Champions Leagues, three La Ligas, three Copa del Reys, two World Club Cups, two UEFA Super Cups and three Supercopa de Espanas.

The 29-year-old has just 18 months left on his current contract with the Catalan giants, something City are hoping to take advantage of this summer

It’s been reported by the Daily Mirror that the Citizens will offer up to £500,000 per week to land the multiple Ballon d’Or winner.

The move could spell the end for Sergio Aguero however, who may be offloaded to provide funds for the Messi deal to go ahead.
