Manchester United could yet still sell club captain Wayne Rooney – as early as the end of the month.

That’s according to the Daily Telegraph, who are reporting this weekend that a number of Chinese Super League clubs are still doing all they can to land Man United and England’s record goalscorer.

The Chinese transfer window doesn’t shut for another 10 days, and Rooney only has 18 months remaining on his current Old Trafford deal.

It’s believed the 31-year-old has been a whopping £32m per year to head East, where his commercial value and marketing ability would make him arguably China’s biggest signing yet.

Rooney has fallen down the pecking order at Old Trafford, with Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Marcus Rashford each becoming Mourinho’s go-to strikers this season.

The England international has netted just two Premier League goals, and is averaging just 54 minutes of football across his 17 league appearances this term.

And comments from Mourinho regarding Rooney’s absence from their victory over Saint-Etienne this week, will have only added further speculation over the former Everton star’s future in Manchester.

With the Red Devils challenging for four trophies this season however, it remains to be seen whether the club and boss Jose Mourinho would be willing to accept a mid-season departure.

In the meantime, United will be hoping to continue their Emirates FA Cup run when they head to Blackburn on Sunday.

And our odds of 7/20 suggest the Red Devils will be making it into the quarter-finals at least.

But again, Mourinho has been unwilling to confirm whether Rooney will feature.

Is he injured? Or is he off to China? We’ll find out sooner rather than later.
