Liverpool lead Man United in race to snap up Dutch wing wizard

The last six weeks have not been a happy time for Liverpool fans – with just one victory in 10 games. But there could be a light at the end of the tunnel, with Jurgen Klopp reportedly closing in on a summer deal for Spartak Moscow ace Quincy Promes.

With six goals and seven assists to his name in 14 Russian Premier League games this season, the Krasno-Belye winger has been in scintillating form, helping the capital club chalk up a five-point lead at the top of the table.

And there’s no question of this just being a purple patch for the 25-year-old, who netted 18 times for the Otkritie Arena outfit in 2015-16, including a pair of braces against local rivals Dinamo Moscow.

He’s also continually impressed for the Netherlands since making his international debut back in 2014, and netted twice in October’s 4-1 demolition of Belarus.

Liverpool are currently favourites for his signature at 2/1, and with no natural right winger currently on their books following Lazar Markovic’s loan exit, it would certainly make sense for the Reds to snap up Promes – especially considering that the goals have suddenly dried up at Anfield.

However, they’re not the only Premier League side who have been impressed by the Amsterdam native’s form for club and country.

Manchester United are 5/1 shots to snap up the Spartak star, with Arsene Wenger 8/1 to add the talented wide man to the Arsenal ranks.

But whichever of the Prem trio end up getting Promes would be advised to get the deal done no later than this summer. Transfermarkt.co.uk estimate the player’s current market value at £15.3m, the highest of his career, and a huge leap up from the £8.5m quoted at the beginning of 2016.

Wait any longer than that, and we could well see the gifted winger’s price tag, and list of interested suitors, continue to spiral.

Next up for Liverpool is the visit of Tottenham on Saturday, with 6/5 for Klopp’s charges to beat Spurs for the fourth time in five meetings at Anfield.
