Lincoln City make Emirates FA Cup history with incredible win at Burnley

They used to say that no Non-League side can reach the quarter-finals of the FA Cup – but now they can think again after Lincoln City pulled off a heroic effort to defeat Burnley.

The Imps are marching on into Monday’s Emirates FA Cup draw, thanks to Sean Raggett’s 88th-minute winner at Turf Moor.

We can imagine boss Danny Cowell and the Lincoln team will soon be handed the keys to the city, with Lincoln now 100/1 to win the Cup, and 50s to make the final.

It’s only the third time a Non-League side has defeated top-tier opposition since 1989. And the Imps did it away from home too! Even Chelsea couldn’t win at Turf Moor last week.

And it’s the farthest a Non-League outfit has reached since Queens Park Rangers in 1914, and let’s be honest, it’s a little bit tougher for the smaller teams 100 years later.

Safe to say the result went down well on Twitter…

The Imps, who entered the competition as 1000/1 outsiders are now also just 50/1 to make the final after seeing off Burnley away from home.

One Lincoln fan also has extra reason to celebrate the giant killing as he makes one step closer to a £15,000 windfall thanks to his £15 bet placed at the start of the competition.

Alex Donohue of Ladbrokes said: “Lincoln have already gone into the FA Cup history books following this win and the odds of them going all the way have now tumbled as well.

“Barely anyone thought they would get past Burnley and their fans have to believe a trip to Wembley is now within reach.”
