Ladbrokes League 1: Incredible promotion play-off push continues

Published:

Fans of sides in Ladbrokes League 1 are seeing a quite incredible scenario unfold right now. Livingston may be all-but-sure of a title triumph with a 10-point gap at the top of the table. But the other nine sides in the division are all battling to reach the promotion play-off spots.

Fourth-placed Brechin City currently occupy the third and final of those spots, lying on 32 points. But they’re just eight points above bottom club Stranraer, while second-placed Airdrieonians only have a five-point cushion on the sides outside the play-offs.

Form in the division isn’t pointing to the league opening up, either. Nine of the 10 sides in League 1 have enjoyed victory and endured defeat during the last five matchdays, with East Fife – currently on a three-game drawing streak – the only exception.

It’s hard to see Alloa Athletic falling out of the play-off spots, with the likes of Greig Spence and Jordan Kirkpatrick in their ranks – but the other positions are very much up for debate.

East Fife’s defensive strength – just 24 goals conceded in 22 games – means they have the foundations to continue pushing on, while Peterhead have the benefit of experience over many of their challengers, having reached the League 1 play-offs last term.

Elsewhere, ninth-placed Stenhousemuir could be the dark horses worth keeping an eye on, following an impressive six goals in their last two outings – against the Diamonds and Brechin respectively.

With so few points separating clubs across Ladbrokes League 1, the whole complexion of the table could quickly shift following this Saturday’s fixtures.

Indeed, Peterhead and Albion Rovers could each potentially move within a point of the promotion play-off spots with victory this weekend, as the pair meet at Balmoor.

The Blue Toon are 20/21 for victory, with the Wee Rovers 13/5, and the same price on offer for the draw.
