Kane now favourite in top scorer market after Tottenham coast to victory

He may not have enjoyed the best of times for Tottenham Hotspur in the week against Gent, but Harry Kane was well and truly back to his best in the Premier League this afternoon as Mauricio Pochettino’s men breezed to a 4-0 victory over Stoke City.

The England international flew out the traps, netting a first-half hat-trick as Spur climbed up to second in the table.

And having started the day as a 4/1 shot to finish the season as the division’s top scorer for the second year in a row, Kane is now a clear 6/4 favourite.

Indeed, that hat-trick was his fourth in the Premier League in three seasons, as he took his top-flight total to 66.

Punters that have been backing the 23-year-old all year must be confident the striker can top the tally yet again, and here’s why they have reason to be confident…

His contribution is phenomenal

Spurs don’t look to be falling outside of the top four any time soon, as they continue to pick up points with relative ease.

But while they look to have found the perfect balance between defensive solidity and attacking prowess, Kane’s contribution has been simply stunning.

The former Leicester City loanee has been responsible for a whopping 37 per cent of Spurs’ league goals this season – and if we were to take his strikes away, the north London outfit would be some six points worse off, sitting uncomfortably in sixth place.

He’s a man for any occasion

Quite simply, there aren’t many who can do what Harry Kane does.

Whether it be against an out of form side or the league’s high-fliers, you’d always back him to find the net.

Spurs’ remaining fixtures also offer the forward a chance to add a substantial amount to his tally. That’s because Pochettino’s men will face teams currently in the bottom half of the table in eight of their remaining 13 fixtures.

And it’s in those games where Kane tends to run riot.

History says he’s only getting better

Remember, we’re talking about a 23-year-old here. But he’s reached the 20-goal mark in his previous two campaigns, and is three away from doing exactly that for a third consecutive season.

His first full season as Spurs’ first-choice forward saw him net 21 league goals, while he managed 25 last time out.

This time last year, he had 16 goals to his name. He’s one better this time around, and all the signs are pointing towards him smashing his personal best tally.

To do so, he’d have to find the net nine more times. But in the kind of form Kane is in right now, we’d expect him do achieve that with games to spare.

And were he to beat his tally of last campaign, it’s hard to see anyone else keeping up with him, making him great value at 6/4 for the Golden Boot.
