ICYMI: Aberdeen hit stunning seven against Motherwell at Pittodrie

Adam Rooney - Aberdeen

Aberdeen ran out 7-2 winners against Motherwell last night with Adam Rooney’s hat-trick just one of the talking points from an incredible game.

Jonny Hayes opened the scoring in the second minute to spark a glut of first-half goals. Andy Considine and Adam Rooney’s initial effort of the night made it 3-0 before Ryan Christie’s sublime curler put the Dons four goals to the good heading into the interval.

However, Derek McInnes’ side, and Rooney in particular, weren’t done there.

The Irishman added a penalty and a tap-in to his haul although Well did grab some kind of consolation when Ryan Bowman and Stephen Pearson pulled two goals back.

Substitute Peter Pawlett then rounded off the scoring for the hosts to cap a stunning victory.

Aberdeen sit second in the Ladbrokes Premiership table, three points clear of Rangers, while Mark McGhee’s Steelmen are down to ninth with a -17 goal difference.
