Burnley v Lincoln: Imps likely to struggle at fortress Turf Moor
Lincoln City’s Emirates FA Cup adventure has been one of the stories of the season, with Danny Cowley’s Non-Leaguers already knocking out two Championship sides. But taking anything from Burnley at Turf Moor will surely be a bridge too far.
The Clarets have won nine of their last 11 on home soil – a sequence which has been maintained by an extremely solid defence. Ahead of this cup clash, Sean Dyche’s side have conceded just once in their last five on their patch.
That means backing Burnley to win to nil looks generously priced at Evens.
However, while they’re chalking up victories, the Clarets have tended to be slow starters this season. In fact, they haven’t taken the lead before the half-hour mark in any of their last 13 games, despite going on to win six of them. So the 17/20 for this clash to be a draw after 30 minutes could prove a savvy selection.
One man who could well make the difference is Welsh international Sam Vokes. The 27-year-old has found the net in three of his last six games, so the 10/11 for him to score anytime against the National League outfit is proving popular.
However, the safest bet looks to be on the Clarets scoring the game’s final goal. They’ve done just that in six of their last seven games, so even with modest returns on offer at 2/7, it looks about as much of a banker as they come.
While we’re pretty certain of a Burnley victory, those keen to back the underdogs to produce something on the night could do worse than backing Nathan Arnold to score.
Lincoln’s top cup performer, Theo Robinson, has now departed to Southend United, but Arnold – who netted the winner in the Third Round replay against Ipswich Town – can be backed at 19/5 to net anytime, having already chalked up 12 goals this term.
In the match betting, the Clarets are 2/7 for victory, with Lincoln 10/1 to triumph, and 17/4 on offer for this tie to reach a replay.
