Blackburn v Man United: In-form visitors to continue winning run

Published:

Manchester United will head to Ewood Park for their Emirates FA Cup tie on Sunday in high spirits, following Thursday night’s 3-0 victory over Saint-Etienne in the Europa League. And that mood is unlikely to be dampened by a Blackburn Rovers side mired at the bottom end of the Championship.

Jose Mourinho’s men have now won three games on the trot without conceding, sweeping aside Watford, Leicester City and Les Verts during the past fortnight.

By contrast, Blackburn’s last two games have seen them drop points against a woeful Rotherham side, and suffer defeat at the hands of Sheffield Wednesday.

But while they’ll be fired up to revive their fortunes against the current Emirates FA Cup holders, United have avoided the potential banana-skins in this competition in recent seasons.

In fact, the Old Trafford outfit have won each of their last seven FA Cup games against lower league opposition, and have already turned over two Championship sides – Wigan Athletic and Reading – by 4-0 margins in this season’s competition.

With Blackburn struggling for goals, and United beginning to click up-front, the 11/10 for the visitors to win to nil could prove a very savvy bet.

Meanwhile, a third 4-0 victory in succession against second-tier opponents looks worth a flutter at 12/1.

One man who’s had plenty of success against Rovers is Wayne Rooney. He’s scored in six of his previous meetings with the Lancashire club, and there’s 11/10 on offer for him to net anytime today.

But the England international isn’t the only United man worth considering in this market. Juan Mata has netted in two of the club’s last three games, and loves playing in this competition. Indeed, he’s scored in four of his previous eight FA Cup outings since joining the club in 2014 – and it’s 11/2 for him to open the scoring here..

In the match betting, Man United are 7/20 for victory, with Blackburn priced at 8/1 and 4/1 on offer for the draw.
